Shellac Manicure Experience

I used to get my nails done all the time.  First, I started off with acrylics and then moved to the gel nails.  Even when I took the gel nails off, my nail bed still suffered damage, but not as bad as with the acrylic.

Today, I was in the mood for a mani and pedi (only happens a couple of times a year) and went to Luxury Nail Spa in Durham on Erwin Rd.  Let me just say that it's a really nice salon and everyone was really friendly!  I explained to them that I wanted a gel overlay, but I didn't want the artificial nails.  The technician suggested the Shellac Manicure.  He explained it was very similar to gel nails, but you can take it off with acetone polish remover and it should last about TWO WEEKS. They don't have to file your nails down, so there's no damage. I was sold.

I will see how the next two weeks go and if they hold up.  The price was $35 plus an additional $5 for the french.

  1. Looks nice, can't wait to see how they hold up. I was actually thinking about get gel, but I think I will pass now and try out the shellac and see how I like that.

  2. I hope it lasts at least two weeks! One of my friends said when she took them off, she was shocked at how damaged and brittle her nails were, but we shall see! It's interesting how Shellac cost more than the fill-in for the gel set. I may end up switching, but we'll see.

  3. Neat post... wanna follow each other!
